My experience with english

First of all, I have to say that I have a special relation with English language. This is because this kind of language has had a big imprint in my family. My father and my mother live for several years on a country where English is the first language: Canada. After that, my mother became an English teacher, until nowadays. My father and my sister are brilliant dominants of this language. And, in my case, the situation is the opposite. I don’t have an accurate management about English. I really don’t like to learn new languages. And also, and just because my family is very near to English language, for a while – especially in mi adolescence- I hate it.
Today, I have compulsory English classes. If it were my personal option, probably I never take this class. This doesn’t mean that I think that English it’s awful or unnecessary. Indeed, in my opinion, English language it’s very useful because it is an indispensable tool for the social life today, allow open new horizons for the mind and the relationships. And in special for the people that love travel, like me.
So, ¿why I say that if it were my option, I’ll never take English classes? Well, this is because I think that the obligatory staffs don’t have good results, including language learning. When I was younger, I hate that my family spoke English on my house and my face. I felt that they wanted that I do the same, at any price. Because I was on my teenage time, don’t speak English was a reveal way from my mother (at that time my father doesn’t live anymore with me). By the same time, I had English classes on school. That experience was more fun (because I was with my classmates), but in the deep of my heart I don’t like it for nothing.
Nowadays, being in university, I think that the compulsory classes might do not exist. English is the unique obligatory subject in my career (Anthropology), and that is bad for a better learning. I believe that if you want to really learn a language, you have to take that option by yourself. You need a lot of time to study. It’s not useful have classes only once a week (like my case); you need to practice all the days of the week. And for the students that’s very difficult, because we have a lot of others subject. That’s way I will take English classes in an institute when I finish my career.

Faculty facilities

The general situation of my faculty is rather bad than good. There are serious problems with the infrastructure in general and the implements for the students. The building have some failures. The reason for this situation is the fact that this faculty doesn’t have too much money, in comparison with others like Economic and business faculty (FEN) and Medicine faculty.
For example, the different problems are:
- Students don’t have any lockers. We need lockers, because we always are with a books, notebooks, laptops, exercise clothes, etcetera.
- The library doesn’t have all the kind of book that the students need. Sometimes you have to go to other libraries faculty, other times the book doesn’t exist in all the university.
- There is not available a student study room. This year, the authorities decided that the casino, before and after of lunch time, becomes in study room. I think that this situation is untenable, because is a express and easy solution that doesn’t reflect real preoccupation.
- Sometimes there are problems with the computer rooms, because when there is some class happening in there, some people run out of computer.
- The amount of print’s paper is too low. Many times I have to go to other universality and places to can print all the stuff that the teachers give to ass.
- Some toilets units don’t work, making all the room very dirty. The same happens with the wash basin. Not always there is toilet paper.
- There are not available ramps for disabled people. I think that this situation is terrible for a Social Science faculty, a place that, in theory, worries about minorities.

The sound of music

First of all, I will say that I am a music fan. Without music, the world will be very boring! That’s why I always NEED to be with my MP3 player in the street, and with the radio blaring in my house. By the same, I listen a lot of different music. From reggueaton to trip hop, passing through funk, pop, hip hop, ethnic music (afro, arabic), latin music and movies soundtracks.
My favorite band is Jamiroquai. They are from England. The music that they play is a mix of acid jazz, funk, soul and disco. I like Jamiroquai because the music that they play its make me feels happy. The bits are perfect for dancing, they keep me high.
The Jamiroquai’s CDs are the only original that I have. For me, a student, buy CDs tracks is difficult, because they are too expensive for my pocket. That is the reason why I always download free music on internet, especially discography of my favorite artists. Approximately, I download about one CD track at a week.
Although I like a lot listen to music, I can’t play any musical instrument. That’s very sad, because I wish I can play saxophone, piano or drums. On the other hand, I think that I am a good dancer. I love to dance, especially reggueaton, salsa, pop… More in particular, I practice Arabic dance since 8 years ago, and Afro dance since 5 years ago. And I love to listen and to dance those kinds of music. Finally, about singing, I am really really bad. But this doesn’t means that I don’t sing. Contrary, I like to sing a lot, especially in my house.

About Cinema

I am a cinema lover. I have a lot of movies in my house, but the 90% of them are copied. All the time I’m asking to my friends if they have new movies, for copies them. I choose the copy films because it’s the cheaper option. Go to the cinema it’s very expensive, and that’s why I choose to have my own films. The times when I went to the cinema have been because someone pays my ticket. Other times, I try to find places where they play movies for free.
It’s a difficult decision for me choose only one movie. For today, I will talk about V for Vendetta. This is a science fiction movie that it is based on a graphic novel wrote by Alan Moore. The movie was released on 2005, and its director is James Mc Teigue. The film stars are: Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea and John Hurt.
The history is this way: The location is London, but not the actually London. It’s a city of the future! There is an authoritarian government, and the main character, V, is a mysterious wrestler that combats the sociopolitical situation, and specifically manner to do that is through the vendetta.
This is a really good film. Not only the history it’s good, also the special effects, the dialogues, the music, the actuation… that’s why I lost the count about how much times I saw the movie.

WHAT TO DO / WHERE TO GO IN SANTIAGO .

This weekend I supposed to write a post about what to do and where to go in Santiago. Once a time, in a holiday time, when I was in other country, I just think about this topic, because I was a foreigner tourist in that place and a lot of people recommend to me differente places and things to do. But, when I think about what to do in Santiago city, my own-answer was that I really don’t know!
Today, after a time about that firs thinking, I view more possibilities that I recommend to a foreigner tourist. But it remains being a little hardest for me. In first place, I think that a great place to go is Cerro Santa Lucía. This is a really good alternative, because in that place you can find a lot of things to do, like the cableway, the zoo, the japanese garden, the funicular; and all with a great view from above of Santiago city. Other place can be the Youngay neighborhood, because it’s an important key of Santiago history. A third possibility can be to visit Chascona, the Pablo Neruda’s house, a place with artistic activities. The fourth visit you can’t miss is Quinta Normal. This is a big public park, with a artificial lake and lot of museums inside, like the Museum of natural history, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Train museum. And the last thing, and if it isabout party, a good place to go it’s Bellavista neighborhood. There is a lot of pubs and restaurants, so you can choose the most you like.

Mi favorite TV serial: DEXTER

My favorite TV serial is call “Dexter”. It is an american television drama series that airs on the Showtime channel. It is based on novels by Jeff Lindsay: “Darkly Dreaming Dexter”, “Dearly Devoted Dexter” and “Dexter in the Dark.” The serial centers on Dexter Morgan (the actor Michael C. Hall), a jovial employee in the Miami Metropolitan Police Department's crime lab, where he works as a blood spatter analyst. The interesting thing is that Dexter have a double life: he is a covert serial killer. His actions and thoughts are governed by a strict moral code: He only kill “Bad guys” (murderers, torturers, etcétera).
The first time that I listen about this TV serial was a couple years ago. Nevertheless, the first time that I saw it was this year, because I download all the seasons free from internet.
The principal reason that makes me want to see the TV show is that I think that Dexter have an internal justice principle, and the “strange way” (be a killer) that he use to satisfy that idea. At the same time, he has to resolve murders, so that thing make double interesting (because it have a lot of police cases). Also, the history is very exciting, with a lot of tension moments, many of whom are given by other interesting characters.

Transantiago

Hello everyone!
In a very first time, I hated Transantiago. That was because in the moment that Transantiago was implemented, I was living in La Reina, a neighborhood with a bad public transfer. If before Transantiago I have different bus routes, after I had only one!
But today, I live in another part of Santiago. I live in Ñuñoa, near to Irarrázaval, so I have a diversity of bus routes that cross this avenue.
I think that Transantiago is better than the pre-Transantiago system in only one thing. This thing is the BIP target. I think that it is an easy way to pay, because it’s faster and comfortable to transport. And, the better thing is that with one passage you can make more than one travel.
However, I think that Transantiago it is a bad system. The worst thing that it have it is that it doesn’t have coordination between buses. Because of this, sometimes you have to wait almost a half an hour, and sometimes they past one after other.
The last thing that I say it’s the first change that I will do if I could. The second one it is about the bus stop. I see on the street that they are very badly done, because some of them are very big for only one bus, and other are to small for a lot of bus routes.

A country I would like to visit

A country I would like to visit with all my heart is Egypt, because only its name sound exotic to me, I imagine a country with narrow street, buildings like little palaces with the smell of centuries of history, camels, women dressed with veils, palm trees and people eating dates, nuts and pistachios.
I know very little about it, one of those things is that the climate is humid, hot and dry, a dessert weather, that they have a president and a lot of poverty in spite that they do have rich nesses like oil and that their official religion is Muslim and their language is from Arabic roots.
If I go there someday, I would like to learn more about their dance: the seven veil dance, the belly dance and the odalisque dance and to listen to their music and buy a lot of it.
I will be very happy to study and live there for a couple of months in a “Dance academy” with a native dancer to perfection my own style of oriental dancing that I practice these days.

A new term!!!!!!!

Hello everyone!!

In general, the first term was good. I’m going to talk about different areas:

- University  I took 7 courses: Theory of Systems, Quantitative Methods, Qualitative Methods, Easter Island Culture, Gender, Development Anthropology and English. I like the most part of these classes, and I think that I learned a lot of new things. But in the last part of the term I was very stress, because I had to do a lot of big works (And also I have exams).
- Family  I have a few of big problems with some of my relatives (for example, with my sister), but nothing impossible to overcome.
- Friends  I had difficulty with some of my classmates, but I tried to think that was a problem of the other person (not mine).
- Love  I was singer (and I still be one). It was a calm term “for my hearth”.
- Health  My health was great! I got sick only one time, and it was nothing to worry about.

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity

On the link http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html yoy can see a video called "Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity". Today, I will make a reviwe and a comment about this video.
It was very difficult to me to understand the video because Ken Robinson has an english accent.
Ken Robinson is a man about 50 years olds.
In his conference, the man review this themes:
1) Extraordinary of human crativity
2) The future (¿how we make planes?)
3) The education.
4) The human intelligence.

Sometimes he appears like a comediant, but he is saying something important and serious.
The central argument is: Ken Robinson question himself and the audience about the education system that its present all around the word. He affirms that this system nurtures creativity. It seems that the adults are loosing innovation capacity, and principally because this system prepares people to the work world, and not for a development for there habilities. He said that there is “People that have to move to think”.

My blog experience

In first place, I have to say that I had never had a blog before. Because of this, it was a new experience. It was difficult to me, because I don’t have the habit to writ posts. Also, it took me a lot of hard to write in English, because a long time ago that I don’t did this. I want to explain a lot of things, but I don’t find the correct words. That is one of the reasons that have a blog it was not a enjoy experience. But the way, and because the same reason, it was something good to improve my English level. Sometimes I think that my writing hability it’s the worst. So, have a blog it a good way to improve it.

In other way, I think that the information including in some posts was very similar. More that one time I write “Medical Anthropoloy”, because I have to answer question relation with mi career. But in general, I like the topics of the post. The most I like was when I answer “A photo that I like.” In that case, I learn a lot of new words to talk about that.

Finally, in conclusion, it was more the better than the worst in my experience of have a blog. Today I can say that I know how to use one. And, the more important, I learned to say a lot of phrases and words in the correct way.

My favorite subject

My favorite subject this term is Qualitative methodology. The reason I like it is because this subject give me a body of knowledge that it’s very important for my formation like a social scientist. In qualitative methodology I had learn about two techniques: Life history and Focus group. The first it is refers to the biography of some person. In the other hand and the second it is refers to a group conversation. Booth of them are very important, because they give as direct information about what people think and what they do. It give as a particular information about the problematic of the subjectivity, that is very important for all the anthropologist all around the world. Also, this subject gives me a theoretical approach about the methodological phenomenas involved on the social investigation process, so is very complete and very useful-

My ideal job

Because I am studying Anthropology, my wish is to work in this area. So, I would like to work as an ethnographer. At ethnographic work means that I would have to travel to many different societies and cultures around the world, with the view to increase the anthropological knowledge.
To do this job, I would have to be open to adaptation to different places where I will be. It is very important that I need to bee empathic with the people. Also, for this job I have to record all the information around me. So, I would need to be able to take pictures, have a field diary, and have conversations with lot of people.
I am good at writing, so I will be able to record in a good way the information. I am very emphatic with people that I don’t know before. I am a sociable person, so I will be good to get closer to the people.
Sincerely, I think that I never will find this job. It's a utopian idea, because today doesn’t exist to much people that are interested to pay this kind of work.

My future

In first place, I have to say that I have a lot of plans, that I think that maybe I don't have time to make al the things that I want to do. Or maybe I'll achieve my goals, but I will not have the youth and the strength for that.
One of my goals is to continue with my studies out of Chile. I would like to take a postgraduate on Medical Anthropology, maybe in Mexico.
I don’t want to die before visiting two countries: Australia and Egypt. So I hope to have money to travel to those places. However, soon I'm going to travel, but to an other place. I’m going to visit Easter Island (Rapa Nui).
In five years I imagine my self single and without children. I would like to have a big house for my own. I want a big house because my dream is to have a lot of animals, specially street dogs, picked up from the sreet.

The best in Anthropology

In first place, I have to say that it¡s very difficult to me to choose only one researcher of my field.
But If I have to make tis choice, I will choose Marvin Harris. I know this anthropologist in a curse about cultural materialism that I have in my career about 2 years ago.
Marvin Harris was an american anthropologist (from EEUU). He was born in New York on 1927 and died on 2001. He is very importan for the Anthropoloy because he introduced the topic called "Cultural materialism". In his work he combined Marx emphasis on the forces of production with Malthus insights on the impact of demographic factors on other parts of the sociocultural system. Harris see these factors are determining the social structure of a society. He has focused on the relations between culture and ecology, and the way that the first are influenced by the second. Moreover, Harris has been write about the development of the anthropology theory, in a classic book The Rise of Anthropological Theory .
I like Harris because he introduced a new perspective about the culture. Generally, the culture is understood under a symbolic perspective, in terms of symbols and meanings. Harris, in opposition, think that the explication of the cultural fenomenom it is on the ecological variables, like population, production, technology and others. That because he formulating a materialist explanation for the treatment of “sacred cows” in Indian culture, talking about the proteins of the cows.

My career: Social Anthropology

I decide to study Social Anthropology because I have humanist interestings. In a begging I want to study Sociology, but then I found the Social Anthropoly and I decide that it's a better option, because I hate estadistics and I preffer an other kind of metodology, more near to the people. Athropology characterized it selfs like a discipline that have and etnohgraphic method, close to the subjects with she work. The Anthropology about a big and universality social problem: the Culture. We can add to this the discussion about the identity problem, that its also coneccted to the Culture. I think that this are very importants thematics, and in this point is where de Antrophologists contribute to the social investigación. However, this problemas are so big, that the Anthtropology it's very wide. You can apply this discipline to a lot of problems, like: Education, Medicine, Politics, Economics, Enviroment... etcétera. Tha anthropologist can make conbtributions to the society in all af this areas. I prefer the medical problems, because I think that the health/ilness sistem it's very important for how the people feel about it's selfs. The name of this it's the Medical Anthropology.

A photo that I like

This is a photo that I like a lot. It was the winner of the World Press Photo on 2005. This is a huge prize, because the World Press Photo it's the biggest competion of photos from all around the world.
This picture was taken by Finbarr O'Reilly, a canadian photograph from de Reuters agency. He took de picture August the first of 2005.
The image shows a woman waiting on an emergency centre of alimentation, because the both of them live in a country that suffering famine. This country is Nigeria, and the city was Tahoua.
I like this pic because I think that it's kind ok witness about an importante situation that happend to people in our world. Due to the fact that, even TODAY, people are starving in Africa, I think that this photo it's very important. It is a recordatory for the common people -incluiding myself-, because they tend to forget this grave situation that affect to human beings just like us.

Today I will talk about a website related to mi career. I choose www.naya.org.arg, because I think that is a very complete website. It is about news of Anthropoly and Archeology in Latin america.
I know Naya because this site send regularly mails to mi adrees curse mail. That because someone of mi classmates registered on the website.
I read more the mails of this website that the orginal link. Actually, de mails are a resume of the information that appear. How I say on the beaginning, it is a webiste about news, so the mails that they send are actualizated. The website send the mails regularly, like once a month, so that its when I reed the news. However, I like in particular a seccion of the website. This is http://www.naya.org.ar/articulos/medica.htm. I like this link because it is about Medical Anthropology, an area of the Anthropology that I like very much. This website is interisting because have a lot of articles about that.

Mi favourite piece of techology: MP3-MP4 player

In the world of techology, there is a lot of things that I like. But, If I have choose one, i'm sure that i will choose the MP3 or MP4. That it's because i'm a fanatic of the music. Without Music, the world will be very boring!!!
If you don't know, the MP3 or MP4 player are a portable media players that reproduce some audio and video formats
Like five years ago i got my first player. It was a present of my mother.
In the presente, I use muy player every day. When I close the door of my house, inmediatally I put mi headphones and start to listen to music. The place that I love more to use my player is on the bus and the subway, to make more confortable mi trip whetever place I go. I hate listen to babes criying, beepings, cell rigtones, screames, etcétera.
I love it because its very small, so it is very easy to transport every where with you (in the rugsag, in the handbag, in a pocket... wherever you want!).
